This research highlights the strategic importance of nurturing a work environment in which nurses feel their physical and emotional safety is an organizational priority.
Among the notable findings, data indicate that units in which nurses rated safety and surveillance capacity highly had:
- Lower rates of missed care events, pressure ulcers and patient falls
- Higher RN job enjoyment rates, intent-to-stay percentages, meaningful contribution scores and RN-perceived quality of care scores
- More positive patient ratings of their experiences with nurses
